For anyone who wants to understand how Meta works, and their frankly awful hold on social media their threads app and platform no automagically mutes/blocks any talk of Pixelfed as it is an alternative their own Instagram service. Of course, this will surely bring them under fire legally, but for now it just shows what a poor company they are and how they are willing to do anything to keep the money flowing in.
How does this matter? Well doing this of course stifles competition and just leverages their huge advantage on people who don’t know the alternatives. If you truly care about things you *may* want to start blocking threads from federating right away, or choose an activitypub service that actively blocks threads and/or meta. Meta will only ruin activitypub and federated services, this is clear to see from things like pulling this stunt. If you ever needed a reason to leave the meta world this is just another example of the many they give!
*Updated*
After a thorough poking around I’ve found that a large amount of ActivityPub instances are blocking Meta from federating with them. I believe it is this that is causing the issues here. Things like this are bound to happen as I see most ActivityPub instance admins don’t want to federate with Meta, and to be honest I don’t blame them. Meta doesn’t need the numbers and ActivityPub and the fediverse don’t need to be steamrollered by Meta. Seems about fair like that
@ade well, that's not really a neutral view of things. nevertheless, i have mixed feelings about corporations in the fediverse. However, it's never the corporations that are the problem, it's the users!
I think we all know Meta is not neutral at all…
