After I had finished my own work on websites yesterday Tik Tok decided to restore services in the US after comments by president elect Trump. Services were restored pretty quickly. Now colour me cynical, but Biden had already said he wasn’t going to enforce a ban so why did it just take Trump to say he would sort it for it to happen? Simples…. political power and how a platform has basicly aligned itself to Trump (like the others) to ensure it continues to work, though in this case it has bought itself 90 days. This political meddling with platforms is rabid right now with Meta and X aligning themselves to Trump very quickly and now Tik Tok doing the same. It surely can only be a matter of time before Bluesky goes the same way, along with ads and other changes, and for us here outside the US it means that the choices of unbiased social media platforms grows increasingly slim…
