There has been a lot of chat about the Online Safety Act and how when it is fully implemented in 2025 how things will change. Well as far as I can see, the implications for social media are such that overnight Facebook, TikTok, Threads and any other form of social media will literally be illegal in some shape or form. As the UK is basically going this alone my cynical mind says that what will happen is that the platforms will just stop being used in the UK and that the UK will be an island again (!) with many finding that they cannot access content that the rest of the world can. This appears to be a ill thought out law which will also be impossible to monitor and Police, and we all know that the results won’t be more safety in the UK but more people finding ways to access things in the grey and murky waters that exist out there….
